Waterville is a picturesque village overlooking stunning Ballinskelligs Bay on the Ring of Kerry to the west and suitated by the beautiful Lake Currane to the east which is renowned for the some of the best Salmon & Sea Trout Angling in Europe.
Waterville as a golfing destination hosts one of the finest links golf courses in the world. Waterville Golf Links is located on the north side of Waterville, the surrounding scenery and quality of golf holes is breathtaking to say the least. Hogs Head Golf Club is located on the south side of Waterville.

Waterville Golf Links, an 18-hole championship course, is one of the toughest and most scenic in Ireland or Britain. Over 100 years old, it was recently voted the fifth best golf course in the UK and Ireland and 34th in the top 100 courses worldwide. The course has been, and remains, popular with many of the world's best players, including Nick Faldo, Ernie Els, Mark O'Meara, Payne Stewart and Tiger Woods.
Hogs Head Golf Club
Located just a few kilometres a little further south of Watervilele, on the other side of the Currane river, Hogs Head Golf Club owners, Bryan Marsal and Tony Alvarez, had a simple vision to create a world class golf course 'built by friends, for friends' who share the love of the game of golf. Hog's Head Golf Club has breathtaking vistas including the Finglas River flowing through the course, majestic cliff holes overlooking Ballinskelligs Bay and the seaside charm of Waterville village.

Waterville is an Anglers Paradise with Lake, River, Shore and Deep Sea Angling to choose from, it appeals to all Anglers.
Fishing
Lough Currane, this is the largest lough on the system and is virtually the first pool on the Cummeragh River. The lough is 3 miles long and just under 2 miles at its widest. Ghillies are available, providing boats and engines. Due to their vast experience and knowledge of the lough, better catches are usually obtained. For the more experienced Angler, boats and engines are available for hire, but care is advised, due to the rocky nature of the lough. Over 90% of Specimen Sea Trout (6lbs plus) in Ireland, are hooked on this famous lough.
Lough Deriana, this is the largest and perhaps the most beautiful of the upper lakes. It is 2 miles long and approximately 1 mile wide. Fishing is by boat and available by ticket.
Lough Cloonaghlin, this lake is around 1 miles long. It is noted for producing large bags of Sea Trout. Salmon are also found on this lake. Fishing is by boat and available by ticket.
Lough Namona, this is a lake of almost equal length and breadth, and has an area of almost 100 acres. Fishing is by boat and available by ticket.
Lough na hUisce, this is the smallest of the upper lakes. In recent years it has produced Sea Trout of over 10lbs. Fishing is by boat and available by ticket.
Lough Coppal, this lake has its own river system. The lake is miles long and aroung 1/2 a mile wide. Fishing is by boat and available by ticket.
Lough Tooreenbog, Adoohig, Nambrackdarrig, Coomeatheun, Coomrooanig, these are all small hill lakes, containing their own species of Brown Trout, that rise freely to a fly, approached by short walks along the hills. Fishing is usually free and from the banks.

Discover the magic for yourself of cycling along quiet country roads, breathing in fresh country air, with the most spectacular landscape as a backdrop.
Cycling
The regions roads are amongst the quietest and most scenic in Ireland. There are a range of established and signposted cycling routes available. These routes have been mapped and signposted and avoid the main roads as much as possible. The regions best known and longest cycle route is the Ring Of Kerry Cycle Route. The entire journey is 216km with 143km of the route on minor roads. Bicycles are available to borrow from us subject to availability.
Walking / Hiking
For the more enthusiastic walker take yourself to the mountains and explore the Kerry Way - Irelands premier walking route and enjoy the panoramic views of the splendid lake district of the mountain valleys surrounding Waterville.
Walking / Hiking
The Kerry Way -a very popular marked walking route cover 215km- runs through Waterville. Parts of the route are physically demanding and the route extends to isolated area so walkers need to be properly equipped and need to notify people of their expected arrival time.
The route from Cahersiveen to Waterville covers a distance of approx. 30km.
Another option is to follow the route from Waterville to Caherdaniel. This section can be tackled in 2 ways. The first is to follow the trail south from Waterville, this is the easier more low-lying option with views out to the Atlantic. The second option is the more demanding both in distance and height as it heads inland and through more remote settings. Maps and guides are available for this walking route are available from Tourist Offices.
For a more leisurely walk, there are numerous delightful roads and paths you can take to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the area. The local tourist information office can advise you in this regard.
Dark Sky
The Kerry International Dark-Sky Reserve has been designated Irelands FIRST International Dark Sky Reserve by the International Dark-Sky Association, one of only 3 GOLD TIER Reserves on the planet, and the only GOLD TIER Reserve in the Northern Hemisphere.
Dark Skies
The Kerry International Dark-Sky Reserve is located in the South West coast of Ireland in what is called an ISTHMUS - a narrow strip of land connecting two larger land areas, usually with water on either side. The Reserve is protected by the Kerry Mountains and Hills on one side and the Atlantic ocean on the other, is approx. 700 sq km in size and offers dark un-lightpolluted skies, inhabited villages, helpful locals, remote wilderness, long sandy beaches, and numerous lakes, islands and rivers.
